Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong | Temple City | Los Angeles, CA

We’ve been waiting for this Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong location to open up for a long time now. Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong is a Korean Barbeque restaurant and unlike the other locations in the area, this is NOT a All-You-Can-Eat BBQ restaurant. I actually prefer non AYCE places, because the quality of the meat and the service is much better, you get what you pay for! We love the K-town location, it is probably one of our favorite Korean bbq places in LA.  We will get a review of the Ktown location eventually.

Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong is based in the new shopping center in Temple City. This shopping center recently opened up in Temple City right across from another shopping center that opened up only a year prior, there are other new opened restaurants nearby such as Summer Rolls or you can grab a boba next door at Ten Ren while you wait for your number to be called.

I was having an awful day at work, so I dragged bunny to eat and drink with me here on a Thursday night, we arrived around 7:30. There was a 30min wait to be seated, we checked in with the host and she took down our phone number. You can check your wait time via a phone APP, which I didn’t download. You will receive a text message as soon as your table is ready.

Kang Ho Dong Baekjeong is a Korean BBQ chain owned by Korean celebrity Kang Ho Dong.

Upon seating, you are presented with some sea weed, a special soy sauce, sea salt, lettuce, Korean salad, along with your typical Korean Pan Chan.

On a piece of paper on the table, there are details how to combine these ingredients together to eat in the best “Kang Ho Dong” way.

The ring around the fire is filled in with a Cheese and Egg mix and cheese corn that cooks along with the meal.

Since I had a long day at work, I needed this Hite beer to make it better.

That cheese egg.

The restaurant is spacious and was packed.

We went with the small Beef Combo.  This is started with Brisket.

They moved the vent lower to exhaust more smoke.

Our waiter, cooking the meat for us.

Ready to eat.

We went with a bean paste soup.  For the combo you can choose either this or the Kimchi soup.

They changed out our grill, part 2, Seasoned Prime Short Rib.

This was good, but it wasn’t as tender as the K-town location…..

For the last part of the Beef combo, the you have the option between  the choice of Prime Boneless Short Rib Or Prime Rib Eye.  We went with the Boneless short rib.  This is AMAZING at the Ktown location, but misses the mark here.

The grill was flipped over to cook this.

The Boneless short rib was over cooked.  I feel like the servers that work here don’t have the experience as the waitresses at the K-Town location yet…..

This was good, but not as good as the K-Town location.

In the San Gabriel Valley, there is a high Chinese population, so there are not many Korean restaurants, and the Korean restaurants are not as good as K-Town where they cater to Korean tastes.  In the SGV most Korean BBQ restaurants are All-You-Can-Eat, KHD is a breath of fresh air for the area. Service here is good, all of the waters and waitresses were attentive, although they are not trained as well as the other locations, some of our meat was overcooked.  Although the the quality and service is not as high as the K-town location, this is still miles the best Korean BBQ in the area, especially in the Alhambra, Temple City area.
