we flew from queenstown back to auckland and rented a car then headed to Rotorua. we grabbed breakfast at the native tree cafe on the way to Rotorua. we also passed by the Hobbiton.

we did the Hobbiton movie set tour. the tour runs ever 30 mins and i didnt buy tickets in advance. you can book it in advance at their website. the tour costs $79 a person and is about 2 hours long.

the tour was not bad, but ive never watched The Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit trilogies, so the tour wasnt super exciting for me. it was also raining on the day i went which made it even less enjoyable for me, but i would def recommend it if you were a Lord of the Rings or The Hobbit fan.

after the tour, we got back on the road to Rotorua. after arriving to Rotorua, we checked into our hotel at Sport of Kings Motel. the hotel is ranked #2 of 93 Hotels in Rotorua on tripadvisor. the hotel is ok, but i dont see how its ranked the #2 on tripadvisor. there are a lot of hotels in Rotorua, but i didnt find them when i was searching online.

i thought their rooms had jacuzzis in the rooms from the pictures i saw, but our room didn’t have it. we didnt even have a bathtub in our room. only shower. they do have two private jacuzzis you could use in the common area. they also have a small swim pool which was nice. the staff was very friendly and the room was clean. it was decent for the price, but if i were visit Rotorua again, i would look for a nicer place.
